Intro…

Hi everybody! Since I am long overdue for an update, here we go! For those of you that don’t know me that well here’s an incredibly brief introduction: I grew up in Santa Cruz CA, and started playing piano at age four. Though my Dad plays professionally, I was separated from him when I was five but continued to play on my own. I have never had lessons, but probably averaged three-four hours a day on the piano from 6th grade through College.

I graduated from Oregon State last June, and now work in Portland. I’m trying make a living playing the piano…but that’s a work in progress! I love hearing from people and getting to know my fans and supporters, if you have any ideas for me on how I can do that better please tell me. Thank you!

A little bit about ‘Walk With Me’ released April 23, 2007… (will be back in stock hopefully tomorrow!)

A new CD, entitled “Walk With Me”, is out as of yesterday!! Sorry for the delay but yes, I have finally released my 2nd album!! Most of the songs were written over the past year to two years; it is a collage of friend and fan favorites.

I wrote the song ‘Walk With Me’ to encourage friendship. Do you know someone that is a very nice person but at some point has been so overwhelmed by life that they don’t act how they normally would? I personally know a few people like that, and this song is also for them. ‘Rise Above’ was actually a live recording, and I had not originally planning to put it on the album. When I asked my family and close friends what their favorites were, that was usually up there: so I decided to put it on! The ‘Black Keys’ trilogy was written mainly for my brother Aaron, who I am very close to, and anyone else who loves songs in a minor key. It has a bit of a different tone than most of my songs, but I think the emotion and intensity of it is really fun. Natsuki’s Song was written for my friend who has returned home to Japan, I will miss her very much. The CD is available via Cdbaby (http:www.cdbaby.com/cd/mtj2) and will be available on iTunes within a month! If you have any questions, feedback, or any input about this CD let me know! I love to hear it and/or help out.

My website and free sheet music…

As many of you may have already seen, I know have an ‘official’ website at www.matthewtavisjohnson.com. I haven’t updated it much yet, but plan to update it more and more as time goes on. If you play piano or know someone who does, feel free to download the “A Glimpse at Happiness” sheet music from the “Sheet Music” page on my website. It may not be free forever, so download it while you can! J I have been getting a lot of requests for various sheet music – which is awesome! Please be patient on that end: I am working hard to get more sheet music made and released. The next sheet music will be for the song “Bem’s Theme” which I plan to have ready within 2-3 months.

Future plans…

I will be going into the studio on May 5th to record a new album called “The Light CD” which is actually half of a project, the other have (as you may have guessed!) Will be called “The Dark CD.” I’m really excited for this to release because I think it is my best work yet! The Light CD will focus more on happy songs primarily a major key, and the Dark CD will focus on intense/sad songs in a Minor key. There isn’t an estimated delivery date on this product yet, but there will be one soon, and I will keep everyone posted on that with all of the details etc. I am now doing home concerts as well, so if you are interested and in the Oregon/Washington area please contact me and I can send over the appropriate details. They will eventually be up on my website as well.

Closing….

Thank you so much everyone for reading through this and supporting me, I can’t explain how much it means to me. As I mentioned earlier, if you ever have any questions/comments/ANYTHING don’t feel hesitant to contact me about it, I always love hearing from you guys! Note – this newsletter will be sent out via myspace as well, but there will be no special deals/free cd/song giveaway.
